With so many people expecting the release of the iPhone 5 in June It is absolutely amazing how Apple Inc. managed to keep the 6th iteration of the best selling phone ever under wraps. And they made it look so easy.
The big day is, however, on the horizon. Tuesday October 4th will be the grand unveiling of Apple’s new design as well as the date of several significant milestones.
1. The iPhone 5 will be the first iPhone available on all 4 of the major carriers in the US, Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
2. There have also been rumors that along with a new phone will be a (smaller?) cheaper version of the iPhone 4 that will also be available on all carriers.
3. This is also the first large event for Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook, Steve Jobs heir. He has to make the world believe that he has what it takes to grow and maintain the company.
I think it will be interesting to see how Apple’s stock price AAPL is affected by Tim Cook’s performance on the 4th. The pressure will be on Cook to turn in a good performance at the event, especially after what has so far been a very smooth leadership transition at Apple. Apple’s future likely hinges more on his on-stage presence than just a piece of hardware.
